Mr. Jimmie Ray Cornett of Troutdale died October 23, 2019. Mr. Cornett and his family faithfully attended Decorations for many years – including last year. He is survived by one son, Stephen and Missy Cornett of Flatridge, Virginia; sisters, Georgia and Gearl Dean Cornett, Nancy and Billy Johnson of Flatridge, Virginia; sisters-in-law and spouse, Nancy Anderson (Ray), Iris Russell both of Flatridge, Virginia and Linda Roberts (Curtis) of Comers Rock, Virginia; brother-in-law, Roger Cornett (Debbie) of Troutdale, Virginia; several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Norma Jean Cornett, and son, Calvin Cornett. He was buried at Central on Sunday, October 27, 2019.

We also lost one of our trustees in 2019. Mr. Wilson (Will) Leonard passed away Friday, August 9, 2019. He was born April 29, 1937 to the late Woodrow Wilson Leonard and Juanita Lee Layton. Leonard honorably served his country in the U.S. Air Force and retired after 21 years of service. He is survived by his wife, Paula Watts Leonard and sons: Kevin Ray Leonard and Kirt Lee Leonard. In addition to his parents, Will was preceded in death by daughter, Diana Lynn Leonard and sister, Mary Louise Fuller.

Robert Ulysses Parks, age 84, passed away on Saturday, September 15, 2018, at his home in Delta, Pa. Funeral services were held Friday, September 21, 2018, at 8 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Mr. Joshua Parks officiating. Carolyn Testerman Ross (died March 20, 2015) and Esther Vaught (died March 21, 2015 at the age of 102) were buried at Central Cemetery.
In 2014 Paula Anderson-Green (born November 9, 1938 – died August 28, 2014) was buried at Central. A memorial marker was placed in memory of Junior Parks (born June 17, 1938 – died May 23, 2014). His remains are interred in Bishopville, MD.
There were no burials at Central in 2013.
There was only one burial at Central Cemetery in 2012 that of Ruby Lucille Anderson Cornette on June 23, 2012 (the day before last year’s Decoration. Ruby Lucille Anderson Cornette, wife of Glenn David Cornette died in 2002 and is buried at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C. Ruby was born on August 7, 1927 at Flat Ridge. She was one of 15 children born to James and Clair Anderson Cornette. She was preceded in death by six sisters – Elno, Eula, Lorene, Pat, Jessie and Betty; four brothers – James, Marion, Paul and C. She is survived by her daughter Susie Walters and two sisters – Mary Hackler and Eva Phipps. She is also survived by four grandchildren. Her full obituary may be viewed here
Another passing of note was Winifred Anderson Huddle. Winifred Anderson Huddle, age 91, with her family by her side, passed away at her Bellingham, WA home Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012. The oldest of four sisters, Winifred was born Oct. 8, 1921 in the rural family home of her father and mother, Garnet and Mamie Anderson, at Flatridge in Grayson County, VA. She married Jerry Huddle in November of 1948 in Knoxville, TN while they both attended the University of Tennessee. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one sister – Garnetta Coates, and her third son – Richard Edward Huddle. She is survived by her sons – Douglas Huddle and Jerry Huddle, Jr. and sisters – Mildred Ward and Margaret June Morris. She was a friend and faithful supporter of our cemetery and will be greatly missed. Her full obituary may be viewed here
